Your student representative Alla Kirsha is working hard for you and always communicates your wishes and feedback to us. Thank you Alla, and thank you all students who share their thoughts with her! This time we want to inform you a bit better about the Graduation, and respective deadlines you need to keep in mind, if you want to take part in the ceremony, invite your families and receive your BA / MA certificate. Attached is also a document you might already know ("How to successfully finish your thesis")
Gerneral Info: The graduation takes place twice a year (June & November). The graduation is the celebration where you receive your diploma officially. However, if you finsh your BA/MA, for example, in the end of July, then of course you can call yourself Baccalaurea or Baccalaureus, or Master of Psychotherapy Sciences right away (and put it in your CV). Also if you need an official confirmation, our office will write you one. It is just about the original nice certificate, that will be handed out only at the graduation ceremony. If you are not taking part in the ceremony (cause you are not in Vienna, e.g.) we will of course send it to you.
- Code: Alles auswählen
Fr., 16.05.2014 - Deadline to get all three green lights (thesis submission/plagiarism check, classwork including practical hours, finances) to enroll for the final exam
Fr., 30.05.2014 - Last date to do your BA/MA exam and defensio
Fr., 13.06.2014 - Graduation ceremony
Why deadlines? These deadlines go for psychotherapy sciences in general (German and ELP). In some cases, the ELP might allow a +5day range to accomodate your needs, as we can deal with exceptions more easily than the German programme. You have to keep in mind, however, that organizing the exams and graduation takes us some time too ...
- final correction of the thesis
- plagiarizing check
- checking the plagiarizing check
- often writing a justification why your thesis is in fact not a plagiarized work even if the software suggests it might be
- writing the evaluation of your thesis
- fixing exam appointments (this sometimes takes up to a week or two to organize for all examiners and you)
- putting together all your classwork in the office
- checking the supervision and praktikum hours
- checking your financial status
- writing the certificates, printing them, organizing them in rolls
- preparing the lists for the graduation ceremony and sending out invitations
- coordination with the German office
- preparing the graduation ceremony itself in Festsaal with buffet (etc.)
And even though especially Bettina Pfitzner and Ulrike Fenz are doing a great job and always try to accomodate 'late runners' and make exceptions, please try to stick to the above deadlines, because now you might understand how much work each exception is - it will keep the amount of stress for all participants (including you!) at the lowest possible level. After all, you want to have a well organized "rite de passage" with your exam. You might be nervous enough already, and you want to have a free head to prepare for your exam, not running around in the last days, worrying about if you can or cannot make it to the June graduation.
Are you an exception or not? If you think you might be an exception (to the deadlines) and ask us to stretch the rules for you, then please check that the following fits your case: you finished all your necessary Praktikum and supervision/reflection hours, you have your thesis written and are about to hand it in, and you finished nearly all academic classes! If there is just one or two exams missing (that you cannot do until MAY 15, but maybe you can do them before JUNE 7), or if there this one class you have to attend that goes until June 10 (e.g. in BACHELOR: Mendelssohn: Group Processes, or MASTER: Toth: Comparative Psychotherapy Research), then please come to the office now, BEFORE classes start. Then we will definitely try to accomodate your personal aim to finish before June 2014 and take part in the celebration. One exam should not stop you celebrating before the summer holidays.
However, if it is more than 2 classes that you are missing, or if you have another 3 papers to write by June 5, or you need to do 15 more hours of supervision and are missing 40 hours of practice on June 7, we suggest, you take it slow, finish everything in July-September, and take part in the next graduation ceremony in November 2014.
Our advice for students in B6/M4 now is: Organize your schedule - let us know if you need support and extra help - do this early enough - and we will assist you as well as possible!
Best, your ELP staff.
